White folks don’t need our help y’all. I know, I know, kumbaya, "We’re all one race", "Everyone looks the same in the dark", and all that jazz, but let’s be real: bending over backwards to support whiteness (not necessarily white people) is counterproductive AF. I don’t know if its because we wanna be white, if we tryna to be “free thinkers”, or if we just tryna to be “different”, but a good amount of Black folks (and other people of color) have this really strange preoccupation with running to the defense of whiteness when it is attacked. Some of them even flock to it for some idea of acceptance. This is the one that concerns me the most. We should all know by now that whiteness isn’t accepting of anything but whiteness, and even then only certain kinds of whiteness, but yet folks still go flocking to it. Unfortunately a lot of times these are the folks who feel they have been ostracized from Blackness like black nerds and Black queer folx.
Now don’t get me wrong. I understand that some Black people with stereotypically “nerdy/geeky” interests and some Black queer folx have been traumatized by their experiences with other Black people. I don’t wanna minimize that; trauma is real. It is always interesting to me though that many of the folks with the most reasons to hate other Black people love them the most. Pretty much every Black queer person I know or see online will call other Black people out on their BS because they want them to do better. Same with Black nerds and geeks; they love Black people so they look for ways to get other Black people interested in the same things they are. Their issues don’t lead to anti-Blackness, and even if they did they just remove themselves from Black communities they don't bend over backwards trying to convince others that they need to leave Black folks alone too. If you have been hurt and or traumatized by Black folks I understand that, but why would you want to redistribute that trauma to others? That’s not healthy or fair to the rest of the world, and if you ONLY aim your vitriol at other Black people I hate to tell you but that’s anti-Black AF and you need to handle that.
Yea I said it. You anti-Black if you think that Black folks have a monopoly on homophobia or hating nerds/geeks. It has been said time and time again that Black folks aren’t the most homophobic, and have you seen ANY teen drama EVER? Them white kids sure aren’t picking on the jocks in high school hallways. That’s to say nothing of how racist most predominately white nerd/geek communities are. Now if you wanna talk about the rates by which Black trans women are murdered or why most Black folks think nerd/geek culture is “white folks stuff” we can talk, but most folks ain't that deep. Most of the Black nerds and Black queer folks who talk about separating from other Black people do that only because they lust after white folks or feel like Black folks don't want them. I’ll save the talk about preferences for later (that’s another post), but if the ONLY reason you find yourself speaking against Black people and standing with white folks is for something as selfish as “Black folks didn’t wanna fuck me”, then yes, you’re anti-Black. Especially since…well…it may be you. Nothing screams anti-Black (and too close to whiteness) than blaming Black folks for stuff that YOU are doing wrong so yeah...I said what I said.
Not to mention doing all of this extra to run up behind whiteness looks foolish. You’re helping something that doesn’t need your help. The majority of the world already protects whiteness and will have no problem reminding you just how Black you are if you step outta line. You’re busy putting down other Black folks and for what? Because you think that you’ll be more accepted with white geeks, nerds, or queer folx like they don’t fantasize about you not existing? Because you feel like dating interracially offers some sort of representation like it’s not already shown everywhere? Nah. Cut it out and be honest. You could be a beacon for Black gay folx like Karamo was back before he got hungry for checks or like the many spaces created for Black nerds and geeks (not to mention the places for both), but no you decided to chase whiteness. Why? Because at the end of the day, these folks want its acceptance. Berating Black folx in the name of more white acceptance is damn near the definition of anti-Black, and there are way too many folks using their experiences to justify their anti-Blackness. Whiteness doesn't need you caping for it in the year of our Lord 20 and 18, and if you're not careful it will realize it doesn't need you. Then where will you be? Crying about racism to the only folks who will listen: the same Black folks you swear didn't accept you in the first place.
