Long time no talk! Yes, yes, I know. It's been forever since I posted something, but I gotta say life's been crazy over this way. As you know I had a minor (okay, maybe major) breakdown earlier in the year because of the sheer amount of stuff I was dealing with between school, work, writing, and life in general. But now I'm back and I'm ready to dedicate myself to the site again, but with a few changes.
One of the most monumental changes is probably the...hmmm....pause button on the Monthly Spotlights. I know, I know. They were a really good thing, but honestly and truthfully they became just too tedious to have to do every month. I still am very passionate about bringing Black creatives, businesses, and overall Black Excellence to the forefront, but instead of going through all the trouble of putting together spotlights every month I will do them as different blog posts. That way I can give you shorter posts and maybe even more frequent ones (don't hold me to that last one though). The older spotlights are all still on the site: accessible through the link above, searching from the homepage, or if you know the month and year of the spotlight you're looking for you can type out the web address. For example, The Shantoni Holbrook spotlight was from November 2015, so that spotlight's web address is www.mhaynes.org/nov15-spotlight. Try it!
Another big change is the addition of the Scholarship tab. As I get further and further into this here PhD program I learn that you gotta brand yourself more, so I added to this site the Scholarship tab where you can see my work. It has my CV with all of my accomplishments, as well as a few sample syllabi, including the one for the Black Speculative Fiction class I designed that I'm teaching at Clark Atlanta University this fall. Speaking of Black Speculative Fiction, the Scholarship section also includes my definitions for the genres and sub-genres of Black Speculative Fiction. Though I credit all of this stuff to it's rightful owners, it is important to remember that the way it's structured on this site is MINE. So don't steal anything!
Speaking of mine, the last major change on this site is to the Elemental section. I've completely revamped that part to make it more friendly to those who want to learn more about a certain book, see media from/about the series, or read or hear interviews I've given about it. You all know that the Elemental series is my baby, and baby is definitely growing up. I'm getting ready for the release of Return of A.G., the second book in the series, next month, so you KNOW you've gotta keep an eye on this place for all the merchandise and announcements that are gonna come through here.
So yeah. Stuff is changing, but it's also staying the same. I should have a new (real) blog post coming up soon, and with all the foolishness and fuckery that's going on in the world I wanna start with some positivity before I start getting folks together in true Ratchedemic fashion. Now, before I end this rambling post I want to say how appreciative I am of all of you who frequent this site and support my goals. (PS: There is a support page here too) I've been going through a lot over the past year or so and this site has been a way for me to work through it. Thank all of you for taking the time out to stick with me; I promise you'll be glad you did!
